Should we trust our union leaders if a union is formed?

Within the confines of a capitalist society, even if Biden did was the PRO Act and a union was formed, could we actually trust our union leaders to give us better benefits (including medical costs, paid vacations, family leave, and higher wages etc) to talk to our employers and convince them to improve conditions? Since they are working with our employer, are convinced that capitalism is okay and are comfortable with receiving our union dues, it seems like they would do nothing unless the workers forced them to. Also, a strike is a toll on the workers. They lose more money from not working than what they would gain if they continued to accept low wages. What do you all think about this?
