Shouldn’t time off around Christmas be the norm at a corporate job?

We’re approaching that time of year again and I’m so jealous of all my friends whose companies give them the week between Christmas and New Years off work. UGH. My company only provides what they legally have to which is the statutory holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day). If Christmas Eve wasn’t on a Saturday I’d be stuck working Christmas eve. This doesn’t seem fair to me when so many other companies are giving their employees a “shutdown” at Christmas for all their hard work, and because realistically no corporation needs to be working at Christmas time unless you’re essential like healthcare. What gives? Is it wrong of me to expect this?
