Sick and can’t miss work

Hello all, first time poster long time lurker here. Bit of backstory: I just moved from NC to CA over a month ago and snagged a job at a law firm before I came over here. I wasn’t sure what to expect working in California so I’ve just been taking everything day by day. I’ve been working at this firm since Nov 7 and I am in an introductory period of 90 days where I don’t get PTO or get paid for holidays/time off. During the thanksgiving holiday, both my partner (who I moved to CA to be with) and I were extremely sick. Bad upper respiratory infection and I even had strep throat and had to get antibiotics from a doctor online (my benefits don’t kick in until January).

I was already out Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, but I also had to be out the Wednesday before and the Monday after. I have not been that sick since before covid (and I didn’t have covid, I checked.)

Well I had already been on two rounds of antibiotics for other issues in the past two months so this latest round messed me up super bad. I had to stay home about a week after i had started the antibiotics due to my stomach just being completely destroyed.

Fast forward to like two or three weeks after I was out that last time, my manager calls me in to a spare office to talk about my performance and my absences. Not only did I get chastised for not meeting a goal that was never communicated for me to meet, but I also got a verbal talking to about the absences, especially during my introductory period. I don’t know if it was an actual verbal warning or not. She said she understands that things come up but I have to try and keep that from happening again. I nodded and agreed because I didn’t want to fight right off the bat.

Fast forward again to today: I’M SICK AGAIN. So is my partner. Same stuff as last time and it will probably be as bad. I genuinely don’t want to get anyone else sick but I don’t know what to do because she made it seem like I could be written up if I was out again during my intro period, which unfortunately doesn’t end until February.

Apologies for any typos, grammatical errors, or formatting issues. I am so tired and my head hurts. Also I am definitely job hunting but it’s rough out there.
