I work for a factory as an industrial mechanic, union job so you would think good pay and good benefits.
I guess i will start this back a year ago when they brought in a new manager who hired all his buddies to fill in empty mechanic positions. We are paid on a grade system and the starting grade for a mechanic was a grade 8 – $25, well he brought the new hires in at a grade 10 -$28, and according to our contract they can not hire new people in a department for more than they are paying current employees, so after a year of fighting finally every mechanic got their grade 10 but no back pay which is a sore spot but atleast we got our proper pay. This brings me to now, new contract time which was signed and a grade 10 is now $36.51 which to us was absolutely amazing and we all questioned it multiple times and the union assure us yes that’s it pay. Well tonight I got my paystub for this upcoming Friday (ADP app) I am getting paid the new grade 8 rate of $28.86 so I checked with the other mechanics on my shift and they r getting the same. So now starts a new fight because we were all depending on that money. I have proof they still have me down as a grade 10 but clearly that’s not what I am being paid. This just sickens me because I am about to lose my house because medical bills for my family have become astronomical (my wife and child both have severe chronic health issues) and 10 years of loyalty and hard work and this is what get. I had to vent about this but wish me luck in my upcoming fight I will keep you updated.
