Sick time/PTO inquiry

Good morning everyone I had a question and I thought y’all would be willing to debate the topic. I have been working for a non profit for about a year. I have been a allowed in the past to take sick days without pay when I would miss work. (This has been the first company to not force me to use my sick time or PTO to cover days I have missed until NOW) I only miss days to take my daughters to the doctor when they are extremely sick, or to stay at home with them to recover. I always provide doctors excuses so they can see that I’m not bullshiting( Not that it fucking matters). Good morning everyone

I had a question and I thought y’all would be willing to debate the topic.

I have been working for a non profit for about a year. I have been a allowed in the past to take sick days without pay when I would miss work.

(This has been the first company to not force me to use my sick time or PTO to cover days I have missed until NOW)

I only miss days to take my daughters to the doctor when they are extremely sick, or to stay at home with them to recover.

I always provide doctors excuses so they can see that I’m not bullshiting(
Not that it fucking matters).

Anyways, today my manager is letting me know I need to use PTO or sick time to cover two days I was out because my 7 month old had strep. (After I asked her to take them unpaid).

Now she’s saying she apologizes for not clarifying before , even though she has approved time cards with unpaid days in the past?

Why does a company require you to complete the 40 hour week using PTO or sick time? How does it affect the company if you don’t use this time to complete a 40 hour work week?

How does it affect the company if I am not getting paid for the days I am out?

I have a feeling it’s more so to hurt the employee and take away their PTO and sick time.

Side note: I have to accrue said PTO and it’s not available at once like other companies when you get hired.

I’m starting to think the best option is to work for myself at this point.

Hope everyone had a great start to the year, but fuck the system.
