Signed up for workplace insurance for the first time. Am getting screwed over because they’re charging me retroactively and took over two thirds of my paycheck.

So, this had been my first time ever signing up for insurance, period. I am 21f, and I work in retail in the USA. I tried to do some research and read through the options and figure it out myself after the one person I asked about it suggested I do this, but apparently this was my first mistake. I should have asked my coworkers about what I should have signed up for, because it turns out I signed up for way too much. What led to me posting about this is that, get this: the insurance I signed up for early this month is choosing to charge me retroactively all the way to fucking November. When I only signed up for it less than two weeks ago and did not use any services that warranted any insurance the previous months too. Plus, of course, they weren’t upfront about it, and the one benefits customer service representative I talked to stonewalled me when I tried to cancel all of this.

THEY TOOK OVER TWO THIRDS OF MY LAST PAYCHECK. I am literally trying to save up all I can because I am trying to move out of transitional housing and into a more stable living situation and I get screwed over at the very worst moment.

What do I do about this? How can I fix this problem? What can I do to prevent a repeat in the future? What courses of action should I be pursuing right now?
