i want to preface this by saying i’m full anti-work. i don’t believe we should spend our lives suffering through boring tasks that we aren’t properly compensated for. i’ve also realized recently that they’re a necessary evil to survive in my area.
one day i want to own a small restaurant. it’s something i’ve wanted for a long time, and i feel would bring me genuine joy. the only issue i’m having is i don’t want anyone to suffer. i have a solid plan in place so far, i am definitely providing livable wages, flexible scheduling, and benefits. i want to treat employees as people, not as a cog in the machine.
i also want to start with a union. i know they’re few and far between in the restaurant industry, but is there a way to start off on with one? i’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to unions because every job i’ve held so far has just mentioned they’re bad, and i’ve struggled to find any information online besides the ‘how to protect your small business from unions’. due to the lack of knowledge i don’t know if it’s even possible.
i know this isn’t exactly anti-work but i know everyone here is well-versed on the subject. is there anything else i could do to support the workers better? i’ve tried to cover everything i would want out of a job.
