So, during the height of the pandemic only the essential workers were allowed to actually go out to get to work, so why then are they some of the least paid?

It just seems logical that if their jobs are essential for society to function, they’d get paid a lot more than what they currently are. Am I missing something logical, or is the system just broken and no one wants to fix it?
