So I have something interesting and unexpected happening at my job right now…

Ok, so little story before I say what's going on as some background information. I work at a factory and am in a union for it. I've worked there for 6 years currently and previously had 2 and a half years in before I got laid off twice. We just had our new contract negotiated and our leaders took the 1st one given to us to vote on by telling half truths and omitting information that influenced our newest workers who didn't know any better unfortunately. I am very upset with our contract (I voted no) and most other workers agree now that we didn't really fight or get much. So fast forward a few months and now our unions elections are going on. Many of the positions are won by default with no other people running other than the ones already there. I found out that I don't need…

I found out that I don't need to be in any specific position to run for most any spot. I am well liked and truly care about my fellow union workers, they truly are good people. I joked awhile back how I should run for a high up position in there to try and add a little honesty to our leadership. So I found out what I needed to do and signed up to run for Vice president.

I'm running against only the current vice so it's a 1v1 situation. I figured that since I'm not super well known throughout the factory and won't go buy people beer in exchange for votes like some other members have done in the past. Well I put alot of effort into my campaign (flyers, video, networking with people). I actually might win… I have a large portion of people in my building now planning to vote for me and have well known people telling everyone else about my values and plans for our union and its well received.

The current leadership scoffed at me and walked off when I first signed up to run (was super rude). And now they are sweating. They didn't expect me to get this much support and try this hard. Some competition breeds effort and that's what our union needs. I am totally blown away that this turn of events and never expected this to happen ever. I'm just some dude that is nice to people and wants to help….people like that don't win things like this.

Next week is our vote and I will be struck dumb, deaf, and mute if I actually win this and become VICE PRESIDENT. I'm not important, I don't have family or friends in high positions there. How the hell is this happening? I love it! I definitely might not win and I'd accept that result and congratulate my opponent as a fellow union member. But I have so much support that I'm really starting to feel confident in myself. I can do great things if I try. Even if I don't win I at least made the leadership have to put some effort into it.

It was my first major Thanos moment in my life. I just said “fine, I'll do it myself.” But had to share this crazy moment in my life/job.
