So I worked in a movie theater. That had red flag amongst red flag but I’m trying to go back to school and this was the perfect job for me. A ton of lay time in between movies and hours outside of what’s seen as traditional. I gave this place 7 months of open schedule, closing on weekends, dealing w people that did not work, did not show up for shifts. I was promoted after a month. And now fired in my 7th month.
I found some kittens in April. Newborn kittens. And had been bringing them to work. Now when I tell you the theater I worked in is nothing special. No slushees, no food, and barely any popular movies. Everything was an off the path, artsy movie. Which also means no customers. Or barely any. People came in just to see my kitten, told their friends, more people in. People started coming in more for the cats than any movie.
My boss did tell me the kittens could no longer be in the front due to health concerns so I moved them to the back. I thought this was a little ironic, as I had been telling both my bosses for months about the rodent issues w mice and the roach skeletons I’d find in the popcorn vault. We also had no heat all winter. Which resulted in me driving to another location to take their heater.
Anyways, after my boss told me they couldn’t be in the front I only kept them in the back office behind a closed door. I really didn’t think I would get fired seeing as they have people who do no call no shows that are still employed, come to work and do nothing and are still employed, employees that bully others and are still employed and the list goes on. I saw my boss Tuesday and he wasn’t courageous enough to tell me to my face that I couldn’t have the cats in the theater anymore. He left and then sent me the text.
While I was trying to arrange a pick up or just coverage while I took them home a administrative employee came in, went to put stuff away in the back, saw my kittens, played with them, then had me fired.
I’m not sure if My situation involves wrongful termination but I’d love some insight.
