Not sure if this belongs here but I want to complain about it.
I've been working for a Social Security Disability firm now for about 8 months and (as I'm sure most could assume) the system is absolutely horrendous.
I have some clients that have been waiting 1,000 plus days to just get shit on by the government and slapped with a denial after waiting for over 2 years.
After a denial we can appeal, and it can take just as long.
Another denial and they can go in front of a judge that can take even longer.
Some states are a MINIMUM year and half for a decision.
I'm gen Z, and although most of my clients are boomers and sumbitches, I still feel so bad for them. They worked themselves to death their entire lives just for the government to say “lol fuck you go be a cashier or wait another year to be denied again although you're dying.”
Even if awarded the money isn't enough. We all know the minumum wage is super under what it should be, but people going on Social Security get the average of what they worked throughout their lives. So if someone was making $4-7 for 30 years and then it went up the last 10 years worked well, I'm sure you can do the math.
This is of course relating to disability, but retirement does the same thing. My mom has worked overtime pretty much every week at her current job for the last 10 years (48-56 hours/week, she's 60) and SSA will give her $2,000 a month AT FULL RETIREMENT.
I'm not just anti-work, I'm anti-after work as well. At least with the current system we have.
