Something that my spouse’s ex-boss texted him before she knew that he quit. Could they actually have sued us in any states of America?

This happened awhile ago so I'm sure she was just being a turd. I'm 21 and my partner is 22, I don't know anything about courts of law, and he was willing to call her bluff. Nothing came of it in the end but could she actually have done something?
