i'm so fucking mad
my aunt works at a daycare center where the owner of the establishment is a white person and a vast majority of the employees are Latino. To the surprise of no one, the employees mostly speak Spanish to each other. After overhearing them for the past few months (there's cameras in the classrooms) the owner made the announcement that “This is an American daycare and so we should all speak ENGLISH to each other. Speaking Spanish is now prohibited.”
Actually insane. It's not like the caretakers ever even speak Spanish to the kids- they teach/speak to them all in English. It's ONLY when they speak to each other that they speak in Spanish because duh it's what they're most comfortable with??
My aunt and her work friends are obviously upset by this news since it's what a vast majority of them feel most comfortable speaking. Is there anything they can do about this? Unfortunately they don't have the means to straight up quit altogether since they need the money so I'm not sure what they can do; would love any advice here.
