This project has been dragging on since March and the department we’re working with has been…less than helpful and actively obstructive while also demanding we get the project finished. Last week, they relayed vital info that made the project make /so much more sense/ in such a cohesive way but hadn’t been noted on ANY of the information provided, nor passed along in previous meetings by the PM. They set a deadline for tomorrow, but don’t worry, they’re also sending more vital information at an indeterminable time which will require ANOTHER revised project (because of course the project from hell requires fixing someone’s past overlook/mistake from before I even started here). There’s a big disconnect with the department understanding what we do, while they just want to move the project on to the next step quickly (but not efficiently!)
For my industry, education & experience, and current point in life (24, single, long walks on the beach, you get it), I have a very cushy job with a supportive company. I’m very interested in the work I do, but good god, do I hate being the grunt stuck with all the grunt work. I spent hours on hours during my regular schedule executing the most tedious task: image markups in comparison (and alignment) with project plans and other data. And then suddenly, it was all gone. Empty, closed out, laptop restarted, and lost to the world along with my sanity all at once. None of the files appeared in Adobe, Adobe Online, recently deleted…no recovery possible, folks, my spirit sunk quicker than the Titan(ic).
I really did not have an option but to crank it all out, especially after receiving a 1am email from my supervisor about additional tasks for the project. At least she and Taylor Swift were by my side as I continuously took the L. At 3:30am, I replied to her email with a link to the marked up images (the bulk of what she needed anyways), closed my laptop, and now here I am. Knowing that I’m sacrificing sleep for a project that I am for suresies going to suffer through again within the next month or so — yknow, whenever the department decides to send over the new info, impose a hard deadline, and get more annoyed at “how long it’s taking” — well let’s just say it’s not worth the impact to my beauty sleep. These eye bags are Sam’s Club y’all, not Gucci.
