So I've been putting in applications pretty frequently and haven't heard from anyone until a few days ago for front desk work at a hotel.
The owner/manager (I have no idea, there was never any clarification), who I'll call Sam, called me and we talked a little bit, initially setting the interview for the following Monday (it was Friday when I received the call). We continue talking for a bit, then she asks if I'm available that day to come in for an interview. Obviously not, and she then asks if I'm available for a Saturday interview instead. I agree to that and go on with the rest of my day. I'm very aware to be suspicious if employers seem desperate to get people working, and I certainly was.
Saturday rolls around and the interview is supposed to start at 11. Not too early, not too late. A good time so I have plenty of time to get ready. I show up 15 minutes early, and tell the guy at the front desk, who I'll call Harvey, that I have an interview with Sam. He tells me that she isn't here and proceeds to call her. I take that time to pop into the restroom and when I come back, he asks me to wait around the corner where some nice chairs were. Little odd, but I wait. About 2 minutes before the interview is scheduled to start, Harvey comes back and tells me he'll be doing the interview instead. If we were keeping track of red flags, I think we'd be on three by now.
We sit in the breakfast area and I'm positive Harvey has never held an interview before. He just reads directly from some sheets, which are mostly the work tasks for each shift, and doesn't really ask questions or let me speak. About midway through the interview he calls Sam again to get her on speaker phone for the remainder, and she explains that she's sick. Honestly, she had plenty of time to call me and ask to reschedule. While we have her on the phone, Harvey continuously interrupts her and talks over her. I'm sitting there like, isn't she your boss??? Extremely off-putting, and that only increases when Sam mentions that she'd like to get someone working as soon as possible.
I stick through the rest of it (which was only an hour long), drive home and about an hour after it all, I text Sam to tell her that I'm not interested. I haven't been through a ton of interviews yet but man this one was certainly the most unprofessional one and just littered with red flags. Very glad I said no.
Tldr; set up an interview. Interviewer doesn't show up despite having plenty of time to ask to reschedule. Guy at the desk does interview, clearly has never done one before. Doesn't ask questions and I don't get a chance to speak. Calls original interviewer and constantly interrupts her and talks over her.
