Two weeks ago I submitted a time-off request, eight months early, for a trip to Europe I am taking (9 day trip, using 7 days of PTO). My supervisor approved it two days later. I like to submit all of my requests early so there are no issues.
To add a little more detail, in the beginning of January, I submitted a time off request for April as I am taking a trip to the Caribbean (7 day trip, 6 days of PTO). Approved. This Thursday, I submitted a request for two days of PTO, so I would be off on my birthday and the day after. Approved.
Today, two weeks later, she sends an email to my personal email saying she needs to rescind her approval of my days off in September because as of right now I won’t have a enough PTO to take those days. She adds she wanted to let me know this now so I didn’t make any travel plans. My flight, accommodations, tour guide, and everything else are already booked and paid for in full. She says I will have to resubmit my request for approval when I accrue enough hours. Aside from that, I did the math before submitting any requests and I will have more that double the hours I will need by the time September comes around. We get 4 weeks of PTO a year and I have two extra weeks from the previous year.
I replied back and told her due to her previous approval my trip is already booked and paid for in full. In the strange event that I don’t have enough PTO hours by September, I will be taking this time off unpaid.
