Supervisor tells me to go home if i don’t want to do it.

I (28M) am a crane operator in construction. Next week i have to place floors for wich i need special lifting chains. But the supervisor doesn’t want to buy these tools. In order for me to safely conduct my work i need these. He says if i don’t like it i can go home, but he can’t tell me to go home because i’m on contract and he doesn’t have the authority. Also how is he gonna do this legally? By laying me off because i don’t want to violate safety rules? Smh 🤦‍️ If i stay but tell him i won’t lift he will probably hate me for it and it will affect the working atmosphere. Or i could just quit this site but it wil cost my employer revenue and if then he doesn’t take my side on this i will probably quit my job while i’m at…
