I work at a warehouse for a billion dollar school equipment company, unloading semi trailers full of product. They have a policy that states that cellphones cannot be on the work floor and are supposed to be kept in lockers, mainly for “safety”, as you are actively around people driving forklifts 90% of the time
Now, obviously, as you can gather, no one, including lots of supervisory and managerial staff, follows this rule, and it's hardly enforced, despite being emphasized. I came in late today because I had car troubles, and my wife had to drop me off late. I explained this to a supervisor of mine, didn't think much of it as she acknowledged and I went about my work day. Our shift ends at 3:30pm everyday, and around 3:25 to 3:27, people walk to the front of the building to clock out and go home. As I'm walking to the breakroom at 3:27 to leave for the day and retrieve my bag, I pull my phone out of my pocket in an attempt to text my ride to instruct them where to go to pick me up, as we have multiple buildings we work in in our campus and there's different entrances with gates. I get stopped by this same supervisor that I told this morning my car had broken down, and I'm told that I can't have my phone out because it's a hazard around forklifts, and that it's supposed to be put away somewhere. At this moment as she's telling me this, we are behind stacks of boxes, near closed dock doors. There are no forklifts anywhere nearby, nor was there an avenue for one to even bowl into us unexpectedly. It is also 3 minutes before clock out, and I'm actively trying to leave with everyone else. As I say both of these things, she tells me that it's company policy. So at this point I just say “okay” and walk off, because if I open my mouth again, I'm probably going to say some very foul things and argue further, because clearly this woman lacks common sense and probably was the one annoying kid in middle school that reminded the teacher we have homework right before class is over. No idea if this will count against me as any kind of warning or rule breaking or affect my hiring, as I'm a temp waiting to be converted to full time.
Anyone else got any stories of moron supervisors that really need to check their egos?
