Okay, I need some help on the best course of action here. I work part time at a fast food restaurant in Massachusetts, and for the second time, the Manager forgot to give the closers the key to lock up. This means we have to wait for someone to come in with the key while we sit in our cars clocked out because “we're not doing work”.
Surely this is blatant wage theft right? I live in Massachusetts btw. What's the best plan of action to advocate for getting paid if they forget the key? I talked with my other closer and she agrees we should do something to get paid then. On a side note, the manager really seems to like me. Do I either ask him what the policy is on waiting for a key and if he says “no you're not getting paid lol”, filing a formal complaint with the state attorney general. Or do I get all the closers on board with getting paid if you have to wait for the key and then asking for it together.
If anyone knows what the relevant laws are here, please let me know.
