I worked at a SaaS company for a few years and just left a few weeks ago. This SVB news couldn’t have come at more ironic timing for me, and solidified not only my decision but the direction of the company.
I am an accountant by trade and I spent more time trying to explain basic concepts than moving the company in a forward direction throughout my tenure. In the United States, State Sales Tax Compliance is a long and complicated process for any SaaS company – just outsource it, let the experts handle it. The laws are going to catch up. The government wants their money. I balanced everyday accounting along with various other tasking and found myself working 60+ hours a week. Terms of endearment like, ‘disrespectful’ and ‘outspoken’ were often used about me, and I was penalized for my ambition and education.
All of this to say – I accepted a new position and was able to take some needed time off. On my way home today the news broke that SVB collapsed. My prior company might have a lot of problems because of this, because SVB has a big name in the Tech World….. and payroll should run next week. Except – I got a new job.
I had a really great time off. I cannot wait to start my new position. My team is taking me for dinner and drinks next week and then I’ll be fully remote. Just in time. Thanks SVB. 🥰
