This is a rant, but I hate when people older than me give me career advice on how to get hired. People who haven’t had a job interview in 10+ years still think it’s as simple and quick as walking into an office building with your resume and shaking a few hands. I graduated over the summer and understand that getting your first “real job” takes time and so does the actual recruiting process, but i am absolutely burnt from endlessly applying to positions online and getting rejected. I’ve taken advice on having informational interviews and connecting on LinkedIn but i was going stir crazy staying inside all day dealing with toxic positivity on that shit website. Not being able to afford anything without an income so I got a service job which pays the same amount of entry level positions in my field anyway, and with the service job i don’t have to pay for commuting so thats a plus. But people in my family are still waiting for me to get “an actual job” and I’m absolutely sick of it. I don’t want to have to deal with weird office politics for the hopes of MAYBE buying a better future for myself. It’s absolutely exhausting and I see no point of following the advice of “keep applying and network!” If it’s going to land me the same salary I have now.
