At the moment, working in tech is great, I and millions of other engineers get great compensation and great benefits. But it won’t last.
Hiring engineers in the US is expensive, big tech companies will eventually seek to lower their costs, and with engineering salaries being so high, this will be where they start. There are consulting companies that exist purely to sell cheap Indian labor. Some american companies already hire just as many from India as they do from the US.
Engineers must unionize to protect our jobs long term and stop the jobs from being outsourced to India for less then McDonald’s cashier pay. It’s a real threat and I predict in 10-15 years, we will see the consequences of not taking action.
