I have a bachelors degree and even in this field temp agencies are on the rise. I moved to a new city looking for temporary employment to see how I liked it. I landed something and was assured 6 months of work bringing in around $300 or so a day. It was going great and literally only heard positive things.
Got the call earlier today that the company I worked for was no longer funding this position and let me go along with my co-worker who was also apart of the same company.
Its insane. Not to mention no health insurance, retirement, and no other benefits. I'm only 23 years old and this is my second job through a temp agency as many of these companies do the BS where you have to work first and then once a position 'opens up', you can apply. Its a way for companies to just save money and try new things while playing with the lives of others.
Its disgusting and there's nothing I can do about it. My rent is $2,200 a month and the job market here is rough. I don't know what to do.
While I'm at it I have a fun fact too. Back when I was 18 I worked for a manufacturing company through a temp agency where we produced MEDICAL supplies. Very large company too. I remember my elderly co-worker had a heart attack and had to be taken via ambulance during work hours. His wife was there too and went with him. They were both penalized for leaving work early. Unbelievable. Its brutal out there, stay safe.
