I'm conflicted with this statement because it doesn't work. I work in a union and all we have is the option to work now grieve later. Our JD are very defined and basically minimal leeway but no the employer can tell you to do anything. I spoke with a steward on this too and been told exactly that.
I would love to just say to management you're under staffed and the work belongs to a higher pay grade or we need more help but that falls on deaf ears.
The problem with the statement “it's not my job” is that I'll get put into a disciplinary hearing for insubordination.
Honestly I don't know how you guys, in or out, of a union do it. I feel it's easier to do it in corporate.
It's challenging to navigate the work environment.
