I've been working at the factory for almost 4 months. For the past month, overtime's been mandatory. The manager of my overseer asked me “Do you wanna work 6-12pm on Friday?” I asked “Is it voluntary or mandatory?” She didn't wanna answer and repeated her question. I repeated my question. She told me enough people volunteered that my being on the roster didn't matter then came back to my desk during the last 30min of work and said “Actually, you have to come in on Friday.” Why the FUCK did you frame it as a question if it was an order? You gave me the hope of an extended weekend just to squash it. I'm not mad at her. I'm mad that the guy who sits behind his desk all day(the boss of bosses) decides on a whim that we aren't producing enough and gives us overtime until we satisfy him. He's not the one standing up for 10 hours a day. He's not the one denied a seat for 5 minutes. There's talk that if he makes us work Saturdays(like he did last year) some people will walk out cuz that's fucking ridiculous. I use Friday to do my chores and grocery shopping. I'm too tired after work to do anything so the weekends is when I get stuff done.
