Since the service industry is the only industry that offers employment, this means that most people suffer from chronic mental abuse by customers for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. I know one woman who now works in customer service and she's going to be a nurse, and the situation in hospitals is even worse. Nurses in my country (Israel) get physically attacked by patients and patients' relatives almost every shift, and they work many hours a day. There was a case of a nurse who got set on fire by a patient in a clinic in the city of Holon and another case of a doctor who was hit by an iron bar by a patient, and she bled from her head. Work places aren't safe and there's no price tag on someone's health. The streets are also not safe, but at least you don't have to take the abuse with a smile.
