The American Revolution wasn't led by orphan bastards, it was led by landowners. About half of the men that can be considered Founding Fathers were slave owners. Only about a quarter were abolitionists and none of those ever became president.

The French Revolution was led by the wealthy, as well. It was a coalition of businessmen, lawyers, and priests that formed the National Assembly that demanded a new constitution. The crown sent soldiers to break up the Assembly and—this part is crucial—the soldiers refused to do it. Many even helped storm the Bastille, the ceremonial start of the Revolution.

In China, they spent fifty years trying to oust the last emperor. It wasn't until the military sided with them that they actually succeeded. When Sun Yat Sen died, General Chiang Kai-Shek took over and would have remained in power if he hadn't decided let the Japanese invade so that he could focus on eradicating the domestic communists. The Kuomintang's military strength was being eroded on two fronts, while the communists rallied more and more followers who just wanted to liberate Manchuria.

And America's Great Depression? That was fixed by FDR's New Deal. A Roosevelt; a scion of one of the richest families in America. And you know what got him elected? Because it wasn't the New Deal. Economic reform wasn't the main plank in his platform, it was repealing Prohibition. Beer got FDR into office because people not only wanted a drink, but also they were tired of the violence in the streets caused by gangsters. Gangsters who were only able to reek violence on that scale because black market alcohol was so lucrative. The 21st Amendment cut the mafia's purse strings.

Every successful revolution in history was led by people who already had control of a large number of resources; political or military. Every. Single. One.

You want change? Run for office, join the military, or become a cop.
