The overtime disconnect.

There's a problem no one is talking about. Overtime pay was created to give greater value to extraordinary effort. You do more than your standard work, you get rewarded with more than your standard pay. Logical, and respectful. But when you don't get overtime on the primary job and work extra hours on a second or third job, you don't get superior compensation for superior efforts; in fact, it seems like the 2nd jobs that most people pick up pay worse than their primary jobs. I think this is a component of why we are working harder as a country but not making progress; extra work does not result in extra pay, but frequently in less pay per hour. It's killing us as a society. We can't work our way to subsistence when denied the benefits of our full time expended, regardless of who we expend it with. How could…
