I've been noticing this a bit in my area. I've worked quite a few jobs around my town over the past 8 years and have gained quite a few regulars that eventually find me at whatever new job I've taken on.
When I worked at popular grocery store people complained that self checkout was taking away jobs, the line for it was to long, etc. When at the same time we'd have 4 or 5 cashiers working at once along with 2 more manning the self checkout ready to help (at least until Covid). So they had options.
My next job everything was strictly self checkout with a single register for returns only. People complained about missing out on the human experience and that self checkout was again stealing jobs, long lines, etc. It was a small store, very crowded and fully staffed with 3 people on the floor, 2 manning self checkout and the return cashiers. The store has signs all over the place saying it was self checkout only. If they didn't want to do it themselves they didn't have to shop there.
At my current job the same people that have been whining to me that self checkout is stealing jobs, whine to me that the store doesn't have self checkout. They're upset that they have to deal with people and that their time is being wasted because a cashier takes longer.
Pick a side. Either you hate self checkout or you don't. You can't have both ways.
