The reminder I needed that I was expendable to my company.

I love my job. I love what I do and who I work with and for. All great people who seem to really care about me. Then one day we were hit with a lawsuit because I violated someone's copyright during the course of my work. I didn't know about the lawsuit until an anonymous person reached out to me and warned me about it. That same day, my boss comes in and says, “Hey you're doing a great job here! I want you to take the credit and revenue from that project you just completed!” It was sickening. This guy that I trusted, who knew I was desperate for the money and in a very difficult situation in my personal life, was trying to get me to claim personal responsibility for the copyright violation rather than accepting that it was the company's issue. He tried to wash his hands…

He tried to wash his hands of the issue by handing it to me unknowingly.

Luckily, I knew about the lawsuit, so I told him I didn't feel comfortable accepting that kind of credit and pay for a task within the scope of my job. He backed off, and I never heard what happened. I think the case was dropped.
