I’m probably just really naïve and it’s super obvious to everyone else, but I have some conspiracy theories about “job creation” and it’s impact on workers.
Companies get a lot of money and good PR for creating jobs. I’m now realizing how it isn’t always as positive as it sounds.
First off, legit job creation at healthy rates in a healthy economy is always good. Not arguing that at all.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the “created jobs” these corporations and politicians glad so much about are basically slavery in good PR.
Many times the jobs are low skilled workers in a small rural community where land is cheap and you can dump whatever you want into the local water supply.
The factories open and need more workers than the town has so they lure people to this town in the middle of nowhere.
Labor is cheap because everyone wants a job because they believe it will lead to a better life. Workers are treated like machines and no one sees them as human.
They make juuuuust enough to survive but not much else. No savings, no moving out of this town. Trapped as they break their bodies.
They don’t have the time to pursue an education, much less a hobby. The schools have little funding.
The increased population from the factory increased demand for everything so the big chains swoop in and strangle any culture or local businesses around.
The town is now just a random assortment of large companies and their employees.
The years pass by and no one is getting raises but the cost of living is going up.
The factory has mass layoffs or closes and the town is crippled.
This has happened so many times. It’s insane. It’s sickening to see the same patterns play out for these greedy bastards.
If we want true job creation, we need to be focusing on lifting everyone out of poverty and make education and STEAM fields priorities.
These dragons hoarding their treasure have found the perfect loophole for modern day slavery. It’s disgusting.
