They asked me how much did I make

I’ve applied for a support/care job with an agency which my friend referred me to. He makes £12,5/h just like everyone else I know who works there and is younger and less experienced than me. The interview I had went well and felt like I was already hired bc of my experience, there was a bit of subtle racism which I decided to overlook. However, I was asked how much did I make at my previous job and I was honest and told them £9,5, in response to which the interview said they could over me £9,7. I haven’t been in touch with them since and I’m not sure how to proceed. I would feel like shit working for way less than what everyone else is making. Sorry for any mistakes. English isn’t my first language.
