I've never worked for a company that didn't find some loophole to get out of paying out PTO, and like we all know, they don't give anybody notice when they fire you.
I'm leaving for a job that isn't going to string me along with the hope of training that would mean better pay and career advancement. I got it in writing plus a small pay bump in the meantime. (And if they don't follow through, guess who's gonna be back on the market because fuck getting dragged along for years on false promises).
I also have a full week of PTO left that I WILL be getting paid this time. I've left thousands on the way out of other companies, but it was always “well you're in a state that requires we pay it out, but we are based in Texas, so nope (not how the law works, but I can't afford to sue for it)” Or “we gave you that PTO at the beginning of the year out of the goodness of our hearts, but you actually accrue it over the year, so we don't have to pay you since you haven't technically accrued the 80 hours you have in your PTO balance.”
Next week I'm having a “family emergency which means I'll be out of state for all next week” then I'm dropping my tools off and dipping. Fuck them.
