They’re just looking for a local puppet.

Job posting was for a remote position. I live out of state; they knew this from the start. Either the hiring manager is an idiot, or he didn't read my profile sent over by the recruiter. While on the video interview he said everyone is currently working remote, but he/they would like me to come in to the office maybe once a month. And on top of that he was thinking this would ultimately be a hybrid role having me come into the office a few times a week. He spit all this out before I had any chance to interject. By the time I could interrupt him, I asked if there was an office near my location, or am I being asked to travel. He then asked if I knew where such and such city was, and this time I was able to stop him. I said no, I…

By the time I could interrupt him, I asked if there was an office near my location, or am I being asked to travel. He then asked if I knew where such and such city was, and this time I was able to stop him. I said no, I live out of state. I was already getting the vibe from the conversation, but the look of shock on his face at that moment was priceless.

That wasn't the only red flag. In fact, I got the impression his power trip would've just crushed me. I asked him point blank what his management style was and if he supported a good work/life balance. Keep in mind that I was interviewing for a data analyst role; tap into data and spit out reports, essentially a 9 to 5 deal. So he tells me he doesn't like to micro-manage, but he likes to win and will hold everyone accountable. Then he proceeds to talk about how “this center” runs 24/7 handling issues for customers (IT support for external customers). Okay… that's doesn't seem to effect the person in this role. Are you planning on waking me up in the middle of the night to prepare a bar or pie chart?

I can only imagine he is looking for a puppet that is available all the time. Will work in excess of 8 hours on the regular. And will probably be drive this person towards a mental health crisis. All because you're a lunatic who doesn't know how to work with adults; or human beings for that matter.

And no $h!t. I live out of state didn't you read my profile? You wasted the recruiter's time, you wasted my time. And you're a prick. I look at it now as having dodged a bullet.

TL;DR: Please be a proactive and reasonable adult. Be clear on requirements when posting jobs. If the initial conditions of the work are known to be changing in the very near future, this should also be included in the description.
