They’re trying to make these things normal… and it’s working

Today at work (retail store), we had a long line at checkout and one older lady started complaining that the line was taking too long and that we need to call another person out to help. We told her kindly we don't have anyone else scheduled. The lady next to her said “Well that's just how it is these days, every place you go is short staffed and all the lines are longer. What're you gonna do about it, ya know? Just gotta wait your turn.” And the people around her all nodded in agreement. It reminded me of a comment I saw in this sub not too long ago about how corporations are just milking the hell out of these shortages, pushing consumers and employees just before the edge and making us all “used to it”, seeing how much money they can squeeze out of us. I appreciate the patient customers, but I am so surprised at how many are just okay with it now. The big guys up top are really just milking us.

Depresses the fuck out of me.
