“this company is not going to die on a hill for you, do not die on a hill for them”

i just wanted to share these words of wisdom that one of my coworkers said to me when i was experiencing severe dental pain and needed to go to an emergency diagnostic appointment with my dentist on a day that i was working. i was feeling very anxious about missing work because the work itself and the staffing levels meant that losing an employee for a day would cause problems for everyone else. these words were exactly what i needed to hear to put me at ease and decide that i needed to put myself first. i shared these words with my mom months ago and since then she told me it entirely changed the way she viewed her workplace, so i thought maybe other people could use them to help others realize how they truly do not matter as individuals to their employers/company.
