This sub needs a lesson in “crab bucket” mentality and how to avoid it

After the recent post on this sub complaining about working people getting a living wage, it's apparent this sub needs a firm lesson in what “crab bucket” mentality is and how it's exploited by managers and those pocketing the money from your labor. Simplest explanation is “if I can't have it neither can you.” The name comes from the fact that you don't need to put a lid on a bucket of crabs. If one tries to escape, the others grab it and pull it back in. Instead of supporting each other and escaping, they keep each other trapped. Simplest explanation is “if I can't have it neither can you.” The name comes from the fact that you don't need to put a lid on a bucket of crabs. If one tries to escape, the others grab it and pull it back in. Instead of supporting each other and escaping, they keep each other trapped.

I've been in fights for higher wages before with large unions. One of the biggest arguments used by the people fighting to keep you in poverty is the line “why should this person be making a living wage when you aren't?”

Absolutely nothing about this line promotes raises or living wages. At all, in anyway. It turns you against other working people and that is it. It is exclusively for keeping people from getting raises and has been used effectively to that end for decades. Even this sub fell for it.

NEVER shit on another working person getting a living wage. Ever. I don't care if it's a fucking cop getting a living wage. Seriously, I don't care how much you hate the people or what they do.

You celebrate and say “who's next?”

With cops there is a further argument to be had at least, but the fact that y'all turned on FAST FOOD WORKERS is god damn abhorrent. You need some serious self reflection and lessons from actual organizers.
