I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are on the idea of pensions and retirement.
Me personally I think it's a scam. The idea of having to slave away most of your life to “earn” some time to do whatever you want before you die is asinine. I'm in my mid 30s and have worked for the same company for almost a decade. I'm one of the few people who likes their job. I enjoy what I do (most days), but the people I work with are amazing. They are what keep me coming back. However, in that ten years, several coworkers have died within a year or two of retiring. Some have died before retiring. So it really bothers me that I'm forced to contribute to this pension that I don't think I'll ever get to use.
I've been trying to find any studies that dive into how many people actually live to retirement age, and of those who do, how many actually live long enough to enjoy it? How many who have pensions have enough to meet their needs? I haven't had any luck finding anything like that.
Seeing the state of the world: politically, economically, environmentally, I can't help but wonder if I'll live long enough to get to retirement age or if I do, will I even be able to enjoy it?
