a few of my main coworkers and I worked late one night prepping for a sale (two of whom just came in to help out bc they're cool, totally unpaid). Because we were altogether, we decided to go out for dinner and carpool, leaving a car in the lot while we were out. we got back to the parking lot at about midnight and one of the guys thought “I have a long drive back and I have to take a piss, but everything else will be closed”, and, yknow, being longtime, trusted, hardworking employees with store keys and all, we didn't think anything of it? in fact he actually fixed some merchandise on his way out. all on camera in case it was a real concern — two people went in, to the washroom, pissed, locked up and came back out, while the rest of us waited. we were all even still in uniform!
this mfing company called an emergency meeting of higher ups bc of the “”overall threat of theft”” when we entered. we were told we should have let the manager know we were reentering the store to piss. I'm sorry I haven't asked permission to use the washroom since grade school I think what kills me most is if we'd lied and said, say, someone forgot their keys in the store, there would be “no issue”, but apparently it's just too suspicious that two people had to use the washroom. all of us have worked at this store minimum one year and have even been since been promoted, you'd think the first thought wouldn't be “OOOH THEY STEALIN'!!!!” but these CEOs are so far removed from the average worker that they can't fathom someone reentering the store to piss while picking up his car from the lot after grabbing dinner after a long shift. we must be threatening their income.
maybe a conversation on “lack of professionalism” if you really wanna go that way, sure I can understand that, maybe we should have been a lil more responsible and held it until we got home lol. but oh boy am I dumbfounded and not looking forward to my portion of the “””talking to””” with the store manager tomorrow. 🤣 thanks for listening to my vent!
