Timekeeping ethics/legality question

Just took a look at my timecard and saw that my “out” punch had been removed and because I forgot to punch back in after lunch, my 8 hour shift was processed as “early out”, thus giving me 5 hours of paid work instead of the 8 that I actually worked. I know it is my fault for not punching back in after lunch, not fixing it and also not approving my timecard. I know i forgot one punch but our timekeeper has processed my timecard to indicate that I actually missed two punches. That said, is it illegal to delete/remove a punch like that? I know for sure I punched out and made a mental note to myself to fix the missed punch but I simply forgot. We have a new timekeeper who is turning out to be a hardass and I'm sure they're “teaching me a lesson” here.…

That said, is it illegal to delete/remove a punch like that? I know for sure I punched out and made a mental note to myself to fix the missed punch but I simply forgot. We have a new timekeeper who is turning out to be a hardass and I'm sure they're “teaching me a lesson” here. But if they've done something illegal, and my gut tells me they have, I want to have my ducks in a row before I bring it to the attention of my manager.
