I’m a newer stylist (became licensed last year) and I’ve been looking for assistant positions for a while to gain more experience since I went to school during the pandemic. I just had to leave a salon because they were only paying me my commissions, even though I wasn’t even making minimum wage, and I told my boss they needed to make up the difference. Well anyway, now that I’m working somewhere that pays me, I wanted to continue my search to be a paid assistant. I’ve talked to 3 salon owners. 2 of them think it’s ridiculous to pay me even though since I’m helping them out, they’re able to make more money. The last one said I can only make tips. How am I supposed to make tips if I’m not taking clients???? Ugh sorry rant over.
