Worked at this company as a supervisor and was just tired of the moody work environment, toxic bosses, and backwards way of doing things. Nothing I said was of any value and it was either the bosses old way of doing things or you can forget about it. Making any type of suggestions or asking questions would lead to being labeled “Not a team player” and any type of questioning would lead to gossip amongst upper management about an “attitude problem”. They basically wanted a yes man but I was not that person. I knew I had to leave this company so I worked hard to get my certifications to make myself a better candidate in the job market. I wasnt actively looking for new opportunities but they came to me so I gave my boss the courtesy of letting him know that I will be testing the waters. He kind of brushed it off since he thinks working here is the best thing that will happen to us and under the mindset that we are extremely lucky to have this job. Two months after, I received a job offer that was paying more, includes a bonus, 20 minute commute, and a different industry that I was interested in. I told him about it and that I will be accepting the offer. His first reaction isnt one of congratulations. Instead, I'm met with irritation. He had signed us up for training and I was scheduled to go the next week. He said that “if I knew I was going to be accepting a job, why did I sign up for the training?!” and “This is such bad timing” (It wasnt bad timing.. theres absolutely nothing going on as our busy season was last year). I said that (A) This job offer came unexpectedly. (B) I gave you a 2 month courtesy warning (C) You are doing nothing to try to retain me (No counter offer). He was going on and on about how we are going to have to cancel my training or give it to someone else and Im just thinking, wow.. you actually dont care about your employees growth as much as you preached it. Anyways, I do not feel one bit bad about leaving this department as there is no room for growth, the pay is shit, and raises are non-existent for the non upper management roles as they are all buddy buddy.
I talk with my friend that has moved to a different site and he mentions that they want to bring over someone from his team and promote him. Only thing is that he currently gets paid the same amount as I do despite being in a lower role. That got me thinking that they really did not value me and that they just didnt want to pay me more. The boss thinks hes doing gods work by not giving us the raises that we deserve even after preaching that we will get them if we get our certifications. Well we did and we got jack shit. This had led many prior employees to leave before my time and they are wondering what the issue is.
Then comes my time after resigning and we had to return department equipment. One of those items being a flashlight (Just a shitty little flashlight that the company overpaid for). Mind you I said I was going to bring to my friend in the coming weeks as I have no other reason to make a visit to work. Within a couple of days, he sends an email stating that if I didnt return the flashlight, they will be withholding my last paycheck.. A threat for a little flashlight.. I returned it like I said I would on my own schedule and they are harassing my coworker about the little charger that comes with it. Its a type C charger… Oh and the department still owes me $700 for a class.
