So I'm a flagger, which has its perks and its downsides. I typically won't know if I'm working the next day until 1pm of the current day, but I can guarantee I won't be scheduled with bad weather. Well, the last 2 weeks we've been getting storms, so I haven't been scheduled more than 1 day a week. Friday rolled around, and they put me in a parking lot for 4 hours on Monday, tomorrow. I called immediately and told them I couldn't work it, I had other employment commitments. They asked if I was done with them; no, I'm just unable to work that Monday. They told me I have to give them 5 days notice of new employment and I laughed. They informed me they were taking me off the schedule. I expect a call on Monday from the owner, at which point I'll tell him I've started my own business, but would love to continue to work for him with a limited availability.
