Too many of you are no better than the people you claim to be against

I honestly did not think that this kind of post would be needed in a sub that claims to be all about the betterment of normal people but here we are….every single time someone on this sub brings up how much they hate the US and wants to leave, the answer is always the same. “Just get a work from home job and move to Mexico, or Peru, or Argentina! The cost of living is super cheap, it’s beautiful, they have great internet access and beaches! I pay $400 a month for a beachside apartment and I only spend $5 a day on food!” And everyone seemingly agrees there’s never any downsides. For reference, the median US wage is $54,132 a year. The median Mexican HOUSEHOLD income is $13,989. Peru’s median HOUSEHOLD income is $17,252. Obviously if you have a work from home job, you probably have a degree and…

The median Mexican HOUSEHOLD income is $13,989. Peru’s median HOUSEHOLD income is $17,252. Obviously if you have a work from home job, you probably have a degree and make even more than 54k. That means the median US worker makes more than 3x as much as one household does in Peru and more than 4x as much as a household in Mexico.

I want to make it very clear to everyone here…if you think like this, you are no better than the greedy landlords, property companies, and CEOs you guys spend your time bitching about. By gentrifying these areas you are doing nothing but kicking out local people by raising the cost of living. The landlords and business owners in these areas are just like the ones in your hometown. They are greedy and only care about the money. Once these communities start becoming flooded with people that are making 20x as much money as the locals, all of those cheap restaurants, schools, and entertainment options are going to go up because they know foreigners can afford it. This might seem fine for you, but please understand this is only making these cities unaffordable to the people who are actually from there. This is only forcing mom and pop shops to close down due to spikes in rent. Forcing kids out of their schools. Forcing grandparents out of the neighborhoods they have spent their entire lives in. In other words, you are only shifting your problems to other people. You are becoming the problem.

It’s heartbreaking how many of you guys spend your time on here talking about how little you’re paid and how quickly your city is becoming unaffordable and yet you are regularly promoting doing the exact same thing to other people. If you do this, just know you’re no better than your greedy landlord, your local property company, or your shitty boss. You are just as greedy and selfish. You are just as destructive, harmful, and toxic. You are no better than the people you claim to be against. You are not pro work reform, or even pro worker, you are just pro you.

Downvote me if you want, but at least have the balls to comment and tell me why you think this is ok
