I took a job as the director of digital experience at a tech company. The job description specifically was asking for someone with conversion optimization experience, web experiences, digital marketing, growth, etc. etc. Which is my area of expertise.
I took the job and I was managing a team of front end and back end developers that managed the web properties around the world. For the first year, i basically managed the team only, got them in a good place, got the roadmap in a good place, but after about a year I noticed that I wasn't doing any of the things in my job description and over the past year when I would push for certain things, I would get shot down.
So I start mentioning this to my boss, explaining that I was concerned for my career that I wasn't doing what was in my job description and that it was going to bite me in the ass down the road (prophesy initiated). He got defensive, blamed me, said I wasn't scrappy enough and that I didn't understand the business. This is the first time in a year I have ever heard that feedback and it felt reactionary and made up on the spot.
Anyway, a week later, i was laid off by this same guy who wrote the job description and hired me for my skills and then didn't let me do the things in the job and then fired me for it.
Fuck me right!?!!
