I graduated college last year. Prior to that I had started working at this campground that I am still at right now. It was perfect because the job was flexible with my post-college travels. I also grew close with my co workers.
During the off season I decided to get a job in the public sector. Which was fine but I became very over it. So I was super excited to head out.
While it was the “ off season”, I got a call saying that the owners sold their place and will be under a new management. This was a bit heartbreaking. But the new people called and told me they could get me into a full time position.
Fast forward a few months and I had put my two weeks in at the place I was working at. I did this before I signed onto work at the new place ( big mistake but ya live and you learn ) Initially in my negotiation I highballed and asked for 22 an hour, insurance after 30 days ( instead of 60), and more unpaid vacation days. Well they gave me a call with a few days before and saying they were only going to offer 17, make me wait the 60, and gave me no form guarantee on unpaid vacation days.
My position is basically as an “assistant manager”, event promotion, and marketing. I am now being told that one of my co workers from the deal who is salary told the corporation that they were willing to take a pay cut for us. I am also being told that the company is reluctant to hire more people for part time positions. Plus they want to base our location on another location that is in another state. Which will cause some of the staff to leave.
So I decided to put my two weeks in and get a job at a sales position ( whether or not this will be a good risk will be figured out later). But the new boss came up to me and was like “ do you really think you’re making the right decision ? Because the next location we were gonna buy I was going to let you run. Plus if you needed time off, like if your family dies then this company will give you time off”.
For the record the job would have only paid 40k and I would have had to work around 50-80 hours. So in my opinion that was the last slap in the face I needed before I realized I made the right decision This is exactly why our generation does not want to work because we know we’re just going to be slapped in the face over and over again.
Edit: Forgot to mention that this company has acquired over 50 locations in the past year in different states. But the company is not based around campgrounds. So they have almost 0 experience with them. So it is a bit of a rapid expansion that I believe will blow up in their face
