Trades v office jockeys

The lack of class solidarity is insane. I was born in 94, so uni was about in 2013 I noticed that going into uni the narrative was “get good grades or you will drive a truck” Then in uni I saw all these adds all the time from trades schools like: “Imagine spending 4 years to get a liberal arts degree when you can complete a trade program in 1 and make double” I remember first starting some basic banking desk job, starting around 40k ish. The lack of class solidarity is insane.

I was born in 94, so uni was about in 2013

I noticed that going into uni the narrative was “get good grades or you will drive a truck”

Then in uni I saw all these adds all the time from trades schools like:

“Imagine spending 4 years to get a liberal arts degree when you can complete a trade program in 1 and make double”

I remember first starting some basic banking desk job, starting around 40k ish. I saw my trades friends making 60-70 and banged my head on my desk….

BUT now 5 years later all my trades friends have an incredible amount of joint/ soft tissue issues. Unions are so weak now or non existence so trades people are subject to so many heath issues / have mo benefits and looking to retrain.

It sometimes feels like the lower classes can’t win. How do we foster a better environment where we support each other?
