Trial shift culture is really annoying me (New Zealand)

I’m pissed off and needed to vent my frustrations, it feels like every job I apply to wants 2 hours of my time with no guarantees of anything. My first trial shift was for a kitchen hand in a restaurant, I peeled veg for 2 hours while basically being left alone. Never heard back from the manager. Interviewed today for a café. Right at the end after 30 minutes they tell me they’ll get back to me for an ‘interview trial’ as if applying for jobs needs to be any more bureaucratic. Then I had a trial shift today at a bar, left after 15 minutes. The manager didn’t show up or let the other staff know I was coming. It’s really demoralising to have your time wasted like this and really doesn’t make sense when so many places are desperate for work.
