Antiwork

Underpaid, overworked, and angry.

Looking for advice: I work for a very large, publicly traded company who prides themselves on equality in all ways including income. I hold a mid-senior role, responsible for an entire half of the country. I’ve worked for this company for 7 years, consistently over performing and being promoted about every two years. I am female and live about 30 minutes away from a major metropolitan area. I’ve found out recently hired employees, in roles a step below mine, make significantly more than I do, about $30k-$70k more. They are mostly male and are scattered across the country but none live directly in a major metro. Further I’ve learned other females are also underpaid. I’ve asked for a 13% raise but I am getting push back from both my boss and HR. They are citing costing of living differences etc. however the fact remains I am a level above these hires, have significantly more experience, and have delivered more to the company’s bottom line. Geography should not matter.

I am now interviewing outside of the company but I’m absolutely infuriated. Besides leaving and letting this be, is there anything I can do to shed light on this incredible income inequality?

Should I leverage a raise with a counter offer and stay?

I love my job but I’m incensed.

TLDR: I’m a female in a more senior role being paid significantly less than jr. employees. What do I do?
