Summary/TLDR: I'm now unemployed because i got an offer letter and was strung along by a company with an archaic drug policy and shady recruiting practice that waited over a week to rescind the offer while assuring me they wouldn't…
So I left my job, they pulled the offer, and now have nothing…
[Note* Either there's a formal policy that rejects all medicinal use in which case It should have been rescinded over a wk ago when I told them and sent my medical info (before leaving my current job)
Or there is a policy that accepts medicinal usage in which case how does a chronic condition not apply… ]
Background:
*Company sends me an offer letter of my dreams
Shows up a week later with a drug test for background check
*I tell the company I have a chronic condition that I use medical cannabis for.
*I'm told by the recruiter it will be fine but approval is pending (nothing to worry about)
*I emphasize that I don't want to leave my job if there's a risk of not being approved for the new position (thus making me unemployed). So push to have approval ASAP and send my medical card info
*Told again don't worry about it and approval should come
*Close out Last day of current job (already closed out projects on the assumption that a company wouldn't lead me on for a week if they were going to pull the offer over medicinal use of a legal substance after telling me they wouldn't)
*Follow-up Mon – told they're still 'waiting on approval but should be fine….'
*Follow up Tues (we're about 1.5 week after taking the drug test). get a text pointing to a formal email stating 'we have rescinded your offer due to a failed drug test'. Then stop answering my calls/texts when I tried to follow up for more info…
